TRICHOLOGY

What is Trichology?

A specialized  branch of dermatology; Trichology focuses on hair & scalp conditions- considered "the bridge between dermatology, and cosmetology".

Trichology is the science of the structure, function and diseases of the human hair, and provides the identification and paramedical support for diseases and disorders of the human hair and scalp. Trichologists receive training in all aspects of hair science, hair care and hair processing, and are specifically trained to treat hair loss and scalp conditions.

At our centre, Megan Ledarney is the in-house Trichologist; trained by the US Trichology Institute, and certified by the American Medical Association. Her extensive clinicals took place at NYC's prestigious Columbia University: Presbyterian Hospital Medical Research Centre.

Together with her team of licensed stylists & hair replacement specialists, we can help you with the root cause of your hair loss, along with providing non-surgical, multi-therapeutical services to help you grow back your hair, either without hair additions, or in conjunction with hair additions.

Hair Loss

Hair loss can cause great distress and there are many misunderstandings about its causes and treatment.

This is a problem that requires sympathetic handling and a qualified Trichologist who understands patient anxiety around the loss of hair.

There are many other types of hair loss that can and do respond to treatment and advice without medical assistance. There are also some types of hair loss that can have a natural or spontaneous recovery. Excessive hair loss can often be a symptom of one problem, or a variation of problems that a Trichologist can help you identify, potentially prevent, whilst also providing support.

Problems of the scalp

Problems of the scalp range from dandruff to more inflammatory conditions like psoriasis. As with the hair, these problems can be symptomatic of some other metabolic variation.

Stress, poor diet, or even some allergies to certain foods, can be responsible for the build-up and shedding of dead skin cells.

The management of hair and scalp that are excessively greasy is another area in which the advice of a qualified Trichologist is often sought. Here, guidance on the right type of shampoo for any particular individual and on its frequency of use might be particularly relevant.

Hair texture & processing problems

Problems with hair texture can be caused by over exposure to heat or strong chemicals or by many of the other stresses and strains to which we subject our hair. In such cases, co-operation with the hairdresser is obviously important and it indicates that Trichologist training overlaps both the medical and the cosmetic in areas not normally covered by either doctors or hairdressers.

Hair texture problems usually respond very well to appropriate advice and treatment, as the cause(s), once discovered, can often be reduced or eliminated altogether.

Hair restoration services

For those seeking natural hair growth, we offer treatment plans in the form of FDA approved XTC products, Low Level Laser Treatment (LLLT), as well as Microneedling with Growth Factor G6. Please view "Natural Hair Growth" section for more details.

For those seeking to gain added hair (referred to as ‘hair replacement’) in the form of toppers, wigs, & extensions; guidance can be offered to determine if you are a good candidate, and which installation techniques would be best suited to your hair loss & lifestyle. The Extensionist Salons have long been known for providing hair replacement services to those suffering from hair loss, and we have many programs available should you decide his option is right for you.

Advice and support

Advice and support can be given to all our clients, especially those who habitually pull their hair (Trichotillomania), as we are a TTM specialty centre. Likewise, information, guidance and support are also given to those people who have lost hair through chemotherapy treatment. No matter the hair loss, we are here to offer advice and support.

It All Starts With A Consultation

An initial consultation is your first step in identifying your hair or scalp conditions, as well as providing details for a

personalized action plan at our studio.

The consultation is likely to last 45 minutes for a hair replacement consultation, and up to an hour with our certified trichologist, and will give you the opportunity to discuss any hair issues or problems that you may have, in the strictest of confidence.

Chose from either a hair replacement consult with one of our specialists, or for a multi-theraputic approach, including identifying your hair loss, along with hair replacement alternatives, chose to meet with our certified Trichologist.

Certified Trichologist

At TE, Megan is our licensed Trichologist. During your initial consultation (which usually lasts an hour), Megan will discuss any medical history that you may have including other topics like diet, stress levels, lifestyle and current hair care regime. One of the benefits to consulting using a scope (scalp magnification examination) is that we can reference hair growth in 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 9 months to actively see the benefits of your hair action plan.

After consultation is complete, Megan will explain any identifications made and will happily answer any questions you may have including prognosis and treatment plan based on your concerns, desires & lifestyle. This may include hair restoration programs, laser & scoping treatments, hair replacement systems, hair extensions, topicals, and an array of other synergistic options.
